Historical Society Raffles Royals Quilt

Posted

During a recent meeting of the Rose Hill Historic Society it was brought to light that there was a serious problem with the air conditioner and furnace systems. The fluctuations in temperature were causing deterioration in some of the books and artifacts. The damage was able to be repaired but it put up a red flag on the situation. The project had been discussed over the last few months and president
Keith Cox had secured bids on the system between $5,000 to $7,000 for replacement. The issue of how to finance the purchase was the sticking point.

After much discussion it was decided to move forward. Vice-president Janis Linot and Rose Hill resident Susan Hagan got together and made a Royals baseball insignia quilt that will be given away through a raffle. Tickets may be purchased at six for $5. The quilt is currently on display at the Rose Hill Bank where tickets may be purchased. It will travel to the Rose Hill Senior Center for the monthly biscuit gravy breakfast on Saturday, Dec. 5 and possibly move on to city hall. The quilt will also be on display at the Hometown Christmas Craft Fair in the multipurpose gym Saturday, Dec. 12. Tickets may also be purchased through Linot by calling 776-2360 or Cindy Bradford at 776-2605.

In other business, Cox announced that the annual Christmas party would be Wednesday, Dec. 2 at the Pleasant School Building at 7 p.m. Spouses of members are also invited to attend and are asked to bring a snack or finger-food to share.
Christmas donations this year will augment the new HVAC fund. The nominating committee of Craig Linot, Becky Rierson and Cathy Pickett will be securing names
for the positions of vice-president, secretary and two board members. Those nominated will be voted on during the December meeting and will take office in January.

Bradford assisted the Rose Hill Middle School with their first Veteran’s Day program by taking WWII uniforms and pictures to display in their glass case and on a table of memorabilia. Both the museum and Pleasant School will be open for Hometown Christmas Saturday, Dec. 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. A toy show will be featured at the museum with the sign-up for the annual raffle drawing. Pictures
with Santa and writing letters to Santa will take place in the Pleasant School. There will also be miniature Christmas trees for sale. Members are also asked to pay their $10 yearly dues before January. Payments may be mailed to the Rose Hill
Historical Society, PO Box 36, Rose Hill, KS 67133. Bradford or Linot may be contacted with any questions.
